Son of Indian intellectual and diplomat Shashi Tharoor, Kanishk Tharoor’s writings on politics and culture have appeared in publications around the world, including the Guardian, The Independent, The National, The Hindu, The Times of India, The Telegraph (Calcutta), the Caravan, newyorker.com, the Los Angeles Review of Books, Sports Illustrated, Al Jazeera America, Foreign Policy, Cairo Review, the Virginia Quarterly Review, openDemocracy, and YaleGlobal Online. His appearances on radio and TV include BBC’s Today programme, BBC News, BBC Radio Scotland and the Colbert Report. He is also a published and award-winning author of short fiction, which has been nominated for a National Magazine Award. His debut collection, Swimmer Among the Stars: Stories, will be published by Aleph Book Company in India in January 2016, and by Picador in the UK and Commonwealth and by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in North America in early 2017. He is currently at work on a novel. He was associate editor at openDemocracy and recently the global soccer editor of Roads & Kingdoms. He studied at Yale, where he graduated magna cum laude and phi beta kappa with BAs in History and Literature, and at Columbia, where he was a FLAS fellow in Persian and South Asian studies. He was a “Writer in Public Schools” fellow at New York University.
