Chitra Viraraghavan was born in Chennai, India and was educated in Hyderabad, Kodaikanal, Madras and Boston. She has been an editor at Oxford University Press India, and has taught freshman English at Tufts University in Boston.

She happens to be the great granddaughter of India’s former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
