Salma Mahmud was the eldest child of Dr M D Taseer, the noted intellectual, poet and critic who was the first Indian to obtain a PhD in English from Cambridge University. She was also the oldest sister of late Salmaan Taseer.She was educated at Kinnaird College Lahore and then at the University of Edinburgh, from where she obtained an MA (Hons) in English Language and Literature.Professionally, she was a teacher of English and taught at different places in Pakistan and the Middle East. During the last years of of her life she wrote for The Friday Times, a Pakistani weekly.While at the Friday Times, she wrote a series of memoirs on her parents. Later, these memoirs, known as “All my Uncles” served as her book “Wings of Time” published in 2012.
