Dr Anna Suvorova, Professor of Indo-Islamic Culture, is currently Head of Department of Asian Literatures at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow). A specialist in Islam in the Indian subcontinent, classical Urdu literature, Indian and Pakistani theatre and representative arts, she frequently lectures on these subjects in the Universities around the globe.Professor Suvorova is a fellow of Royal Asiatic Society (RAS), British Association for South Asian Studies (BASAS), and some other international scholarly organizations. She has authored, among many other books: – Masnavi: A study of Urdu romance (Oxford University Press, 2000) – Muslim Saints of South Asia: the eleventh to fifteenth century (N.Y.: RoutledgeCurzon, 2004; Urdu translation) – Early Urdu Theatre: Traditions and Transformations (Lahore: NCA Publications, 2009), – Lahore: Topophilia of Space and Place (Oxford University Press, 2011) “Benazir Bhutto: A Multidimensional Portrait Suvorova has also translated into Russian many works of the Urdu prose and poetry, including Saadat Hasan Manto, Ismat Chughtai, Qurratul Ain Hyder, and Iftikhar Arif. Professor Anna Suvorova has been conferred Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan for her contribution to research of Pakistani Literature and Cultural Heritage.
